Creating a mailing list is a very important part of connecting with your customers. You may want to collect emails from your website or have a Freebie (opt-in) that you want to give to potential customers that visit your website. In this blog post I am going to show you how simple it is to connect your Mailchimp account to your Squarespace website and use Mailchimp to deliver freebies.
What is Mailchimp and why do we use it?
Mailchimp is an email service provider that helps you set up email lists and create emails for your business. They have basic templates and automations that allow you to send emails to your subscribers. It is a great way to send your free opt-ins or connect with them about your weekly blog and it is super easy to connect with your Squarespace website.
How to connect your Mailchimp to Squarespace.
In order to connect your Mailchimp account to Squarespace you will need a mailchimp account.
(You can go to www.mailchimp.com to sign up).
Now you need to open Squarespace and go to the page on your website where you want to add the sign up form.
You can add the form anywhere on your website by clicking on the teardrop icon on the left side, scroll down to MORE and click on the Newsletter option. A simple subscription form will open up and you can name your form, customise the text and add the details that you want to have when people subscribe.
You can see a more detailed description of how to connect a simple subscription form in the first part of the video.
Once you have completed the formatting you can select the storage tab at the top of the menu and click Mailchimp. This will open the Mailchimp login page - enter your details and select the subscription list that you want the emails to be added to. Save and you are ready to go.
How to use Mailchimp to deliver a freebie
Nowadays it is rare for people to sign up just to receive a newsletter. They are more inclined to sign up if you are offering them something for free or if you give them a trigger. If you want to create a sign up page that will deliver a freebie or a downloadable file you will need to add a form block instead of a newsletter block to any of your Squarespace pages
You then need to connect this form to Mailchimp and the relevant list. You then need to create an automatic email with the freebie inside Mailchimp that will be send out automatically once someone signs up through that form. You can watch a more detailed tutorial in the second part of the video.

Remember you can create a different download for different blog pages and you can add a hidden field that allows you to track where and when people signed up to your list.
