Website Design for Women of the New Generation

Website Design for Women of the New Generation

When Dee Boys approached me to help with an idea for a website/blog she had in her mind I was immediately intrigued. Although I am not her target audience yet, I quickly realized that her concept was highly needed and was super happy to help.

She needed a website to share the stories of amazing female athletes over 50 and she needed a Facebook page to create a community for them.

When Jodi, a photographer in Dubai, contacted me to design her website and I saw her beautiful photographs I was very excited to be able to help her grow her business.

Jodi had heard about me through a friend and got in contact with me because she was leaving Dubai and her job and wanted to take her side business – family photography – full time once she had returned to England. Therefore she needed a website. We met up to discuss her ideas for the website and Jodi told me in which direction she wanted to take the business. Of course she also showed me her photographs as well as the websites she liked and we immediately clicked and kind of knew we would be working well together.

Why you should display your prices on your website

Why you should display your prices on your website

When I speak to my customers there is always a point when the question arises whether or not they should display their prices on their website.

If you have an online shop there is no question about it, of course you display your prices. However if you have service based business or a product based business but don’t have an online shop - may be you just want to display your products somewhere - the same question still arises. Should you display your prices on your website?

When talking to my clients I realized that many are very hesitant of putting their prices on their website. They feel it’s like putting a label on them.  I get so many answers like

“What if I am too expensive?”

“What if my competition sees the prices?”

“My price depends on the customer and I always do custom quotes.”

“Nobody else does it.”

In this blog post I wrote down 5 reasons why you should display your prices on your website.

And I will be answering your above questions!

How to add a logo testimonial to your Squarespace website

How to add a logo testimonial to your Squarespace website

You might have seen websites which showed the logos of brands the company has worked with or logo of magazines the company has been featured in.

This can easily be done in Squarespace as well and in this video blog post I will show you how.

How to differentiate your brand

How to differentiate your brand

There are many ways to be different from other brands. Of course there is always your

product or service that is different, your story behind it is different, your brand and your logo will look different, your images will be different.

However how do you really differentiate your brand from all the others out there? Now with the world having become so small and brands being accessable basically from everywhere it might seem so difficult to stand out from the crowd. There are so many brands on social media and the internet and it might seem overwhelming. It seems like there is always someone else who is doing what you are doing and who is similar. However I am telling you there is room for you and you are different. Not only because of yourself as a person and your unique story (link) but I think there is one huge way to differentiate your brand from everybody else. And that is being CONSISTENT!

My brand and website design process for Marcella Moohan

My brand and website design process for Marcella Moohan

Marcella Moohan, a business writer, editor and copywriter who now lives in Spain, approached me a few months ago about a logo as well as a website for her business. At that time she was still living in Dubai and we met up in person and clicked immediately. We have now also partnered up so that I work with her whenever I need a copywriter for my clients websites and she has done most of the copy on my own website as well.

She wanted the logo as well as the website to be quite minimal and professional and she wanted to use a serif font as that matches the writer style but was open about anything else. Her personal favorite color was green so I kept that in mind as well. For the website she again wanted it to be minimal and had some ideas ideas about scrolling in mind.

As with all my projects I started off with a research phase to find out more about her industry as well as her style.

My 10 step roadmap of starting a small business

My 10 step roadmap of starting a small business

When I started my first two businesses we did a lot of planning in the beginning. We had great product ideas and we started with lots of designs and big websites which showcased all of our products. We designed those products how we liked them and what was, from our point of view, missing in the market.
Looking back now I wish I had done a few things differently and in a different order.
Therefore I have put together my 10 steps of starting a small business. This list shows what is most important and why and what can wait a little bit or needs some additional thought. Every business is slightly different of course but I think overall these steps are the same for every small business, you might just need to add some things like for example the legal side of setting up and registering your company.

Overview of Squarespace and how to update content on your website

Overview of Squarespace and how to update content on your website

When you read this blog post you have either decided that you want to design your own Squarespace website or a designer has build a website on Squarespace for you. Now I want to give you an overview of the backend of Squarespace and how to update your website yourself.

Squarespace is very simple and easy to use. First of all you don’t have to worry about any updates like you would for example with Wordpress. Squarespace does all updates for you. And secondly in order to change or update content you simply need to use their drag and drop feature.

So the only maintenance you need to worry about is updating your content, may be blogging and monitoring your sites performance through the internal Squarespace analytics section or through Google analytics.

In this post I would like to concentrate on the Pages tab as this is where you actually update your website. Once you click on there your screen will look something like this:

DeLight Branding and Webdesign

DeLight Branding and Webdesign

When Susana approached me to design her brand as well as her website for her new company DeLight I was “delighted” as she would say it :-) The idea sounded so interesting and as I love designing for female entrepreneurs who are just starting their business she was my ideal client. A wife and mom, who moved to Dubai with her husband where she saw a potential in the market to start her own business!

We met shortly after our initial contact and she told me in detail about her plans to start a business for lighting decoration for weddings, private parties and events at any location. Her husband’s company does big lighting installations in Dubai and Portugal and Susana has travelled the world with him to see and experience different lighting installations. Therefore she has seen many good and also many not so nice decorations. However she saw a great potential to light up private events through beautiful and tailored lighting decorations, especially here in Dubai. So the idea of DeLight was born.
